A Biblical Introduction to Community Organizing: How to Make a DifferenceRobert Linthicum 30 hours One of the most profound and comprehensive analyses of power is found in the Bible. It is an understanding superior to any secular study undertaken today. This course initiates a thorough study of a biblical theology of power that includes introduction to the principles and essential strategies of community and broad-based organizing. In doing so, the course uses the Bible to understand how power works in the worlds of politics, business, education, social services and institutionalized religion, and how the people can organize to guarantee that their priorities and values are taken seriously by those institutions. |

Advanced Community Organizing: Building People-Power, Leaders and Community:Robert Linthicum 30 hours This course continues where “How to Make A Difference” ends. It teaches concretely and practically how the people of God can undertake power ministries in order to work effectively for the empowerment of the poor and of the church. Central to this course is the development of the skills of the students in three areas of community organizing: 1) tactics for organizing for successful action; 2) building strong community leaders; and 3) creating a sense of community in a neighborhood or city that will unite the people under a common vision, values and spirit. This course assumes that the students have previously taken “How to Make A Difference” and builds its study upon that premise. |
