WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS AND RETREATS
Partners In Urban Transformation conducts training events for groups and organizations in the form of retreats, seminars or workshops. Workshops are highly participatory learning events, seminars are more instructive in nature, and retreats include times for reflection and spiritual formation. The typical event is between one and four days in length. Usually, Partners consults with the sponsoring body to plan the event and custom design the sessions. The learning events that are most often requested are:
Reclaiming Your City: Biblical Directives for the Urban Church
This event conducts a biblical analysis of how your city’s or region’s economic, political and values-setting systems use their power to either empower or exploit people, explores biblical principles of how the church can successfully work both for public justice and personal righteousness, and examines biblical models for bringing about dramatic transformation in your society’s systems, structures and people. With a less urban focus, this event is titled “Biblical Foundations for Ministry in the New Millennium”.
Coloring Outside the Lines: Ministry for the 21st Century
Perhaps the single greatest deterrent to the effectiveness of churches is the lack of imagination! This event teaches participants to think and act creatively to bring about significant change in their local church and community, examines a PIUT study of the common characteristics of effective urban churches, explores models and examples of innovative churches, and mobilizes your church for change and action.
The Life Cycle of Urban Churches
Just like a human being, a church has a life cycle through which it moves from birth to growth to stasis to death. This event presents that life-cycle, helps each church to identify the essential model of church they have unconsciously adopted (and which is keeping them from change), and presents action that can be taken to interrupt your church’s life-cycle and guarantees many more years by moving the church toward dynamic mission.
Facing Into Your Church’s Future
This event gives people the opportunity to grieve over their church’s past that is forever gone, brings their city down to “bite-size” so that it doesn’t seem so overwhelming, expands the congregation’s imagination by exploring what other churches in similar circumstances have done to pursue their own future, and creates plans that will allow this church to move out into a more hopeful future.

Partners In Urban Transformation works with local churches, their regional and national bodies, mission agencies and community organizations to strengthen their capacity and ability to discern and carry out their mission as effectively as possible.
